Why U.S Constitutional Law?

“Why U.S Constitutional Law?” these were the first words that were asked by my students on my first day of teaching. I was expecting this kind of question because being a backbencher (in my educational career) had taught me many things. So, I explained the importance of US constitution with respect to our constitutions. All the doctrines which we have or will have to take from the constitutional struggle of USA. Therefore, this question helped me to give a brief introduction of US constitution. We have been teaching Constitutional Law of US and Constitutional Law of UK for a long time in our law schools. UK constitution and US constitution are being taught collectively in three years annual degree course. While on the other hand, they are being divided into two courses in five year honors degree. Thus, a basic question arises what is the significance of studying these foreign laws? Britain, being a mother of all the modern democracies and an advocate of parliamentary system...

The Due Recognition of Constitution Day in Pakistan

Constitution Day of Pakistan has been celebrated since 2015. Former chairman Senate, Raza Rabbani, took this initiative to mark 10 th of April as our Constitution Day by highlighting the importance of land mark date of 10 th April. It is dilemma of our constitutional history that after the span of 42 years, we decided to celebrate our constitution day but better late than never. The Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was passed by the Parliament on 10 th April and ratified on 14 th August, 1973. Americans usually observe Constitution Day on September 17 th , the day in 1787 that delegates to the Constitutional convention signed the document in Philadelphia. The law establishing public holiday regarding this day was passed in 2004 with the passage of an amendment by Senator Robert Byrd [1] to the Omnibus Spending Bill of 2004. While Indian Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, is celebrated on 26 th November of every year to commemorate the adopt...

Welcome home Malala!

“ One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.” These lines of Malala Yousafzai circulated in my mind while writing an essay on education in my exams. Fortunately speaking, we have World’s youngest Nobel laureate, named Malala who advocated for girl’s education at a young age. She not only raised her voice in Pakistan but also around the globe. Voicing against the ban on girl’s education by Pakistani Taliban in Sawat and surviving a gunshot for her activism in 2012 was a life changing experience for her. After her recovery, she advocated for girls education at global level and met global leaders at international forums. There is no denying the fact that she do not lose any hope for her return back to Pakistan and continued her struggle. But the way, she is being treated on her return to Pakistan by anti-Malala campaign is embarrassing. After the successful Pakistan Super League event (that ended city wars on social media) but past couple of days creat...

Importance Of CPEC

Importance Of CPEC The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is partly a development scheme and partly strategic gambit. Although the Sino-Pakistani friendship has been labeled as  “higher than the Himalayas”,  perhaps it is time to refashion it with a greater qualifier. The CPEC represents a watershed moment in the Sino-Pakistani partnership: a reflection of enhanced and deepened bilateral relations. More critically for Pakistan, the CPEC comes at a time of rapidly evolving Chinese geopolitical ambitions, thereby, providing Pakistan a significant role, both economically and diplomatically, in this ambitious expansion. Bilateral investment treaties (BITs) between China and Pakistan are the basis of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. They include the establishment of multiple economic and industrial zones along with providing solutions to the energy crisis in Pakistan. The CPEC plan also includes the establishment of road and railway li...

Student Politics: Who To Blame?

Student Politics: Who To Blame? “Those who refuse to participate in politics are destined to be ruled by their inferiors.” ~Plato Students are an integral part of the society. They play an important role in making or breaking the values of a society. Schools and colleges are the best places for the training of students. These schools and colleges should not work like factories where students may be treated like machines. Schools and colleges should be like gardens where students should be treated like plants which may bloom and blossom into flowers. A student’s personality has many facets: psychological, moral, social, political and educational. All these facets must be groomed intelligently by both parents and teachers. Regarding the role of a student, there are two views. Most people are of the view that students’ activities should be confined to education and education alone. Most parents are scared of their children’s participation in any social or political ...

International Humanitarian Law & Technological Advancement in Weaponry

International Humanitarian Law And Technological Advancement In Weaponry International humanitarian law (IHL), based on the concepts of  jus ad bello , is defined to be the law of war. This means that the laws involved are meant to be active in a situation of armed conflict or during war. IHL is branch of public international law that deals with armed conflicts and its relationship with other states. It is defined as: “a set of rules which seek, for humanitarian reasons, to limit the effects of armed conflicts.
